Cyprus Passports and Pink Slips to Change in 2020
In 2020, from April, the public services of Cyprus will issue passports and pink-slip new generation.
The system for collecting biometric data, centralized personalization and issuance of documents in Cyprus was introduced by the German company Bundesdruckerei in 2010. In 2015, Bundesdruckerei, together with Giesecke + Devrient, created Veridos, which transferred the management of international projects. For this reason, it was necessary to conclude an additional agreement between Cyprus and Veridos on the maintenance and modernization of the system.
The modernization of the system of personal documents in accordance with EU specifications was entrusted to the German company Veridos. “They will update and support the work of the nationwide system for collecting biometric data, centralized personalization and issuing passports, identity cards and residence permits,” said Makis Polidoru, deputy head of the Department of Civil Registration and Migration. The company also faces the challenge of replacing the critical but obsolete software components of the system with modern software. In the framework of the project, the documents are adapted to the current EU rules and equipped with new security guarantees. Among the changes in appearance, Polidor called the requirement of the European Union to put the EC flag on the identification cards and the CY designation in the center. “Pink Slips” will also be brought to European standards.
