The authorities of the Republic are seriously puzzled by the scheme for obtaining the citizenship of the country through investment. Such excitement was caused by an article in the newspaper The Guardian, in which it was told that Russian and Ukrainian officials receive the citizenship of the country by simply buying passports. Now there will be more tight control over real estate agents and lawyers who have the opportunity to provide their services in obtaining the citizenship of Cyprus, subject to investment in the country. A registry of agents will be created that will receive the appropriate certificates. At the moment, mediation services are offered by agents even in countries where the law prohibits the presence of another citizenship.
The process of obtaining the citizenship of the country in exchange for investment will be quite difficult, and will also be carefully checked by Interpol for the presence of a threat to the country. Among other things, the applicant must provide documents confirming the legal origin of the funds available to him.
