Tax certificates for residents

Since this year, the Tax Department of the Republic of Cyprus plans to issue to the citizens of the country the so-called Certificate of the Tax Resident. This document must be issued for a period of 1 year.
To obtain the Tax Certificate, you will not need to live in the country for a total of 183 days. These measures are designed to avoid double taxation of residents of Cyprus in a situation where they receive income outside the country (in the case where such income is not taxed at their place of origin).
Previously, according to the Tax Department, an individual could be considered a resident only if he or she lived more than 183 days a year in the territory of Cyprus.
In order to benefit from the new policy, those who wish need to sign a document stating that they will stay in Cyprus for a total of 183 days a year. If he and he do not have the opportunity to stay for the specified period in the current tax year, they need to report this to the Tax Department. After that their Certificate will be canceled for this year.
